Description
Hochkar and Dürrenstein
The last primeval forest of Central Europe lies within reach yet remains inaccessible. You hike from the well-maintained ski circus at Hochkar across alpine meadows and pristine landscapes deep into a rustic area: the retreat of the last Ötscher bear, into forests where the beetle still nibbles unpunished. Across sharp rock ridges from one alpine authority to another. From Hochkar to Dürrenstein, both over 1,800 meters high. Between them the Tremelsattel as the only escape point to cut the route short. A 30-kilometer long mountain route experience rarely found in the entire Northern Limestone Alps. A two-day route for tough alpinists!
