When there is sufficient fresh, deep snow, Hochkar offers opportunities for off-piste skiing. However, freeriding is always dependent on snow conditions, the weather, visibility and the avalanche risk.
Anyone venturing into open terrain does so at their own risk. Please check the current conditions before every run, be mindful of other winter sports enthusiasts, and only ski where it is safe and permitted.
Off-piste, particular care must be taken to respect nature, wildlife and woodland areas. Freeriding in open terrain does not mean that you are allowed to ski anywhere.
Under Section 33 of the Austrian Forestry Act, areas undergoing reforestation or afforestation may not be used until the vegetation has reached a height of at least 3 metres. Furthermore, skiing in woodland near ski lifts is only permitted on marked pistes or ski routes.
Please therefore avoid woodland areas, young growth, reforested areas and restricted zones.
Freeriding takes place in alpine terrain. Conditions can change rapidly – even right next to the ski resort. It is essential to assess the terrain, snow conditions and avalanche risk accurately.
